And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”. But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity. Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.”. -Acts 8:14-24
Simon was a sorcerer before he heard Philip preach the Gospel and then began to believe. Before Simon believed the Gospel he deceived many of the people of Samaria. They were so bewitched that they thought it was the power of God not knowing that it was sorcery. We could only imagine how greatly he benefited through his manipulation and demonic influence over the people. The people even said “This man is the great power of God”. We also do not know if Simon either repented and changed his beliefs all we know is that he asked Philip to pray for him that none of the things he said would come upon him. As we know as the word declares that this goes on frequently today in these last days and we are told to believe not every spirit but to test them. Also in Matthew 24:11 “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many“. Another reference is from 2 Peter 2:1 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.“. This is why we must be vigilant, sober and on fire for the Lord walking in wisdom and discernment so that we are not ignorant of the devils devices.
I am led of the Lord to speak though on the fact of how Simon thought he could buy the gift of God “the anointing to impart” with money. No one can ever purchase the gift to impart spiritual gifts into others. It is a Grace given unto one whom God has chosen and anointed to do so. This is not something that you buy, this is something that God gives to whom he pleases and who he has specifically chosen to do the work. Another thing that you must know is that these people have paid a price for it but it was not with money. It was with many test, battles, temptations, obstacles that they have over came through the grace of God. Much of the things that those anointed as such go through the very ones who desire such an anointing are not willing to go through and will not even survive it. Simply because they have not been called and chosen to carry particular gifts of God. Philip was persecuted heavily for his Faith and he was later on martyred, Philip was built for everything he went through, and what did he do? ENDURED as a faithful servant of God.
It is important to be content with what God has given you, to work on it, nurture it, learn, grow in it, cultivate it, use it to be a Blessing unto others. Not desiring what another believer has because you have no idea what they’ve been through for such an anointing. Even from before they were born again they were in a war for their life due to who they are now and to become. To desire another believers gifts and calling is the sin of covetousness. Philip told Simon your money perish with you and told him to repent he also told him that he was in the poison of bitterness and iniquity. Simon had open doors (bitterness, sorcery, iniquity) that allowed a deceptive spirit to come in to make him believe that he can purchase the gift of God that was gifted to another. His lifestyle of sorcery had a stronghold in him believing that the power of God can be purchased as was his sorcery and demonic giftings. Those who practice magic get their powers from consulting with altars and connecting with other witches and warlocks and money, animals, blood are involved in order to walk in power in the dark side.
If you ever thought that you could buy the power of God or that you had to pay money to be anointed you must repent. The way you obtain these things is giving your life as a living sacrifice unto God and receiving the Holy Spirit and walking in obedience as Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Walking in the will of God and fulfilling it as he leads you and guides you through the life abundantly that he has given you through salvation. To obtain the gifts and calling of God is by giving God your YES and actually walking out your purpose. This is how you are activated through the Holy Spirit to walk in your gifts and calling. Though the Bible says the gifts and calling of God are without repentance in romans 11:29 which means that people can operate in their gifts living in sin which becomes witchcraft. It is witchcraft because the source of your power is not God because sin separates you from God, so you are operating through the demonic realm. This is why if someone is prophetic but they are in sin they are moving in divination using a familiar spirit to get information. Or if someone has the gift to see, they will be seeing through the demonic realm though what they are seeing could be true it is not through the lens of God it is not pure they are trespassing through demonic powers.
So if you beloved have ever given money in exchange to receive a certain gifting or the Holy Spirit please do repent before the Father in Jesus name. What you have received is a counterfeit spirit that is impure and not the Holy Spirit nor the gift of God. This takes true reflection and asking the Lord to reveal to you if you are guilty of such a sin in Jesus name. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.-1 John 1:9. Endure in the process that he has you in, in whichever way he is training you and raising you up this is the route to go. There are no short cuts in this walk, If you take any short cuts you will be in deception and lies you will be going in the wrong direction. When you get into the place where you are now in deception the sad thing is that you will not even know unless God shows you mercy and delivers you out by his Grace. Even someone going through the deception and coming out by his Grace and Mercy is a intense training so that you can teach others to avoid certain things and teach the truth in his name exposing the trickery of the devil. You never even know if God wants to give you something greater than what you have been desiring, but you must endure in the process and every season you go through. It takes Faith in God to get through, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.“-Isaiah 55:8-9.
