O Corinthians! We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections. Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
Therefore
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
“I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.” -2 Corinthians 6:11-18
God calls us as his children to live a life of holiness (set apart) which is to be consecrated, Now this doesn’t mean that we are better than someone else no. It just means that we chose to do the will of the Father and allow ourselves to be set apart for the masters use. When we begin to blend in and become unequally yoked we can form ungodly soul ties and this will lead us to picking up ways of the ungodly. This is a displeasing thing to the Lord because here he lets us know to come out from among them and to be separate. In this walk with Christ he has called us out for a purpose and in order for us to fulfill this purpose we must stand out and be different than the secular world and model Christ. This does not mean that we hate or be rude to unbelievers but that we keep a distance and a boundary and not form soul ties with them because we can and will become defiled no matter how anointed you believe you are.
The Lord will warn you when he does not want you to yoke up with somebody or have a relationship with an individual. When you do not take heed you are in disobedience and this gives the adversary the devil legal rights to pervert your ways. little by little you will begin to turn out to be like the very individual that God told you to separate yourself from or not to even build a bond with. The Corinthian church were not restricted in any way but they were restricted by their own affections which were unholy. They hindered theirs elves, hence why they were admonished in the later text said now return they were being called to repentance. The bible lets us know that “Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.” -1 Corinthians 15:33-34. Through trial and error we learn, the issue is when we do not learn but continue the cycle. If there is something that keeps you from being set apart, that is something you should take before the Lord. Even if you have a trusted individual that you can pray with so you can pray together.
When God does he is not doing this to punish you but to prepare you for wherever he is taking you. So he can clean you up, teach you, deliver you and even to protect you. The people of the secular the unsaved, even those that are our family who are unsaved or former friends we must Love them from a distance cordially. Pray and intercede for them, the times you do get to have small talk love on them with the Love of God. It is a disfavorable thing to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, even to go the direction that Jesus did not lead you too. There’s a reason you are warned, there’s a reason God showed you signs there’s a reason God showed you the intention of the heart of a individual even before you got involved. Not to expose but to let you know that it is not a part of his will for your life. Many of times when such things come into our path’s it is a distraction and temptation to divert us, the enemy knows what our carnal nature wants. While we are dying to our flesh he will come with a temptation to tempt us but thank God that he said in his word that he will make a way of escape. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” -1 Corinthians 10:13.
Temptations will come to try us when we are on the path living a life of Holiness and Righteousness walking with Jesus Christ. Jesus went through it all and was sinless he left us a whole book filled with revelation, wisdom, Knowledge and Holy Spirit will give us the understanding so we can follow. It is not by might not by power but only by the Holy Spirit of God that we can live a life of Holiness and be separate from the world because Holy Spirit will enable us to do so. Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God to overcome sin, temptation and the devil victoriously in Jesus Christ. When we come out from amongst them and be separate not touching the unclean things God will receive us. As long as we remain unequally yoked we are away from him most likely in idolatry. You can be a person who either never done certain things or even delivered from certain things, but once you begin to hang out with people who do such things you slowly will begin to do those things. If not do them you will be tempted heavily to the point where urges will come upon you, now your contaminating your own soul.
All the while God warned you not to yoke yourself up, be separate, this is a walk where you will be separated from the secular world. Even some former friends, and family all for the purposes of the Kingdom of God, They will not understand you. You will have a new family in the Kingdom of God with likeminded people who are doing the will of the Father. You all will fellowship from time to time but even then he will separate you all so that you do not get to comfortable and loose sight of him and become distracted. I’ve personally went through and witnessed that people in the Kingdom of God will begin to build a friendship and if we got to comfortable and began to spend to much time together God would abruptly put and end to it. To get us back at his feet seeking his face, When you come to realize that it is not about us but about fulfilling the great commission you will be at Peace with the very thing God is calling you to. To be ye Holy for he is Holy, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” -1 Peter 1:15-16. Follow Jesus he will never steer us in the wrong direction but down the path of righteousness. Blessings Shalom.
